Why you should dust your plants?
TIME TO SPRING CLEAN YOUR PLANTS
Yay! Spring is here. How magic has this weather been! I think this week was one of the warmest winter days on record at 27 degrees.
If you haven't started yet this weekend is a great time to begin - Spring Cleaning!
And not just your house.
I'd add to that list;
your wardrobe
your car
your garage / shed
your diet
your exercise regime
and your plants - especially your indoor ones!
It was only when I was working as a plant technician in the plant hire industry that I realised that dusting our indoor plants was a thing.
I thought I was just dusting for beauty and presentation. But I was actually dusting for more than that, for health and wellness.
See dust particles on the leaves of the plant actually block the tiny pores in the plant so the it has difficulty breathing and has trouble absorbing available sunlight. This stunts it's growth, leading to poorly developed leaves, lacking vibrancy, contributing to sickness and eventually dead plants :(
We might be overwatering or over fertilising when in fact we just need to dust our plants.
Dusting our indoor plants helps prevent fungal and bacterial growth on leaves too that love mixing in the dust. And pests like spider mites, they harbour and attract to dust!
So, how do I do it?
I wear mirco fibre gloves to dust my plants. You can grab some from your local shop where they sell cleaning products but I was super happy to discover these ones here!
But seriously just get any gentle fabric cleaning cloth (that's had no chemicals / products on it) and dust away.
If you'd love to give your plant's leaves a bit of a gloss up - then check out this beautiful product 'Protect' from We The Wild here. Not only does it shine those leaves it has specific ingredients in it for pest / disease prevention.
NB: I'm not affiliated in any way with We The Wild - though I'd love to be :) I just love, use and recommend their products because they're natural, safe, eco friendly and a beautiful Australian owned and created small business that I love to support. They offer 10% off your first order :)
So, that's it from me for this week! Get dusting those leaves and give your plants some love!
